  • Keep your vehicle well maintained with regular servicing to keep it operating at peak efficiency.  An inefficient engine, with fouled spark plugs for example, won’t make optimum use of fuel.

  • Small things like the air in your tires can have an effect on your gas savings.
  • Having tires inflated to the maximum recommended pressure can improve gas mileage by as much as 6%, while wheel alignments can improve fuel economy up to 10%, according to the U.S. Environment Protection Agency.

  • Choose your tires carefully.  Tire selection should be based on the correct size recommended for the vehicle and its loading recommendations.
  • Buy a tire gage and keep it handy in your car at all times.
  • Check your tire pressure at least once a month, and especially before a long trip.
  • In wet weather, slow down for better traction.
  • Rotate your tires every 6,000 miles
  • Check your vehicle alignment periodically
  • Inspect and measure your tire tread
  • Check the tire sidewalls to make sure there are no gouges, cuts, bulges, or other irregularities
